Music News Roundup
22nd October 2007
In a truly depressing turn of events Liam Gallagher has been named amongst Britain's top ten wittiest people. Placing tenth in the poll, Liam will join the likes of Oscar Wilde, William Shakespeare and Stephen Fry. An example of his wit when waxing spiteful about Victoria Beckham, "She can't even chew gum and walk in a straight line, let alone write a book." Profound.
Love Music Hate Racism has put together their biggest campaign to date, a 29 track double album in partnership with NME. The album includes a plethora of artists, who have contributed a diverse range of rare and exclusive tracks to the project. Consumers are encouraged to copy and burn the CD's with specially designed empty cases intended for distribution in schools across the country.
Arguably the best piece of news to appear in this column for some time, Lindsey Lohan is reportedly broke after exhausting her $7 million fortune supporting her ample drink and drugs habit. She is now staying with a movie producer friend in Hollywood before attempting to get some quick work, hopefully nothing to do with music.
Amy Winehouse will donate £50,000 to a Romanian orphanage this week, after meeting a representative from the charity Beauty Hurts.
Winehouse, who wears a weave to boost the height of her beehive hairstyle, was told that many extensions come from orphans, who have all their hair cut off to sell on the western 'real hair' market. Ex-Smiths guitarist and current member of Modest Mouse, Johnny Marr has been elected as an Honorary Patron of Trinity College Philosophical Society.
The accolade sees Marr join names such as Bram Stoker, Samuel Beckett and Salman Rushdie. The wonder man has also been awarded with a Q Lifetime Achievement award this month.
