Christmas Ball! Doctor On Call!

The annual ENTS Christmas Snowball took place on Wednesday 13 December 2006 in Time and Envy.

Whether you were in the mood for a tux, an elf or just good old student gear, the Snowball was a night that proved everyone has the Christmas spirit and can party good and hard on the final big night out. With a line-up of X-Factor finalists Eton Road and Neighbours star Dr Karl Kennedy, aka Alan Fletcher, with his band Waiting Room, combined with the end of term spirit of the students, it was looking to be a good night to end the autumn term with and to prepare everyone for a fantastic Christmas season.

A wander through Time meant you would naturally bump into Snowmen, Reindeer, Father Christmas and who could forget those scantily clad elves?! Most people had gone all out to create the festive look while others dressed up as objects that had absolutely nothing to do with Christmas, such as a banana which was still highly amusing to look at!

The general merry atmosphere mixed with the excitement of the holidays to come and the anticipation of a good night of music made for an air of excitement. Of course, any Christmas bash wouldn't be the same without the old classics. Despite some songs being nearly thirty years old, the crowd still went wild.

The Christmas usuals popped up, the ones that will never get old, such as Mariah Carey's 'All I want for Christmas' and Wizzard's 'I wish it could be Christmas Everyday.' Mixed in were some modern non-Christmas favourites, which was an odd but genius way to keep everyone dancing and having a fantastic night, even if they were scrooges who were only there for the acts.

The acts began with Eton Road, who took the stage as if it was their own and sang a few favourites from X-Factor, to the delight of any avid viewers who were there.

The enthusiasm of Eton Road was obvious to the crowd. Regardless of their recent exit off the ITV show, their appearance here showed that their talent meant their singing career is on its way up. Despite the boos from the male members of the crowd, the cheers and the whistles from the female population kept it upbeat. Between the ladies frenziedly climbing to get to the front for a quick mobile photo, they sang such covers of hits such as The Scissor Sisters 'Don't feel like dancing' which went down a storm.

The highlight of many peoples evening was Alan Fletcher, Dr Karl Kennedy. The 'Fletch' and Waiting Room appeared to a rapturous applause from the whole audience. Everyone loves the doctor! As he began singing, the screams and cheers were deafening. Starting off with The Automatic's recent smash hit 'Monster', they played a variety of songs that kept the crowd entertained and transfixed for their whole set. He certainly had charisma and looked completely natural as a singer, despite being best known for being Dr Karl! The act lasted for almost an hour, with many people not leaving the dance floor once he had begun singing out of pure enjoyment.

Overall, it was a night thoroughly enjoyed by all, with everyone eagerly anticipating next year's event and now tuning into 'Neighbours' to get their fix of the doc! No doubt it is one of your New Years Resolutions…
