Game Review: Gears of War

So you got an Xbox 360 during the holidays, and you are thinking to yourself what game I can buy to do justice to your new console. Well look no further, if are a fan of the occasional first person shooter, then Gears of War could be exactly what you are looking for.

This new offering from Epic games, that also brought us the likes of Unreal Tournament, has certainly set a new bar for HD console gaming. In this game you play Marcus Fenix, and disgraced Cog soldier who finds himself fighting his way through a world ravaged by the Locust.

It features some truly stunning graphics, which when combined with an interesting cover system make for some compelling game play. The cover system is well used within the game, and if you play the game, you will quickly find out failing to use it effectively will often end with you coming to a gruesome end.

The multiplayer for the game is also excellent fun, and will definitely expand the length of time you will play the game. There is nothing like taking your friend out by means of the grisly chainsaw, or blowing their head clean off, and is bound to not disappoint.

The game does have some downfalls though; first and foremost the story line is a little weak at times. The result being the occasional gap in the storyline, and the feeling that whole plot is a little thin. Another irritation at times is the multiplayer failing to have good support for ranked games if you wish to play with friends, although you can play standard player matches this can be a disappointment for some.

In spite of the faults this is still an excellent game, and as such should definitely be on the buy list for any person with a 360.
