Irreversible (2002)

Review: Irreversible

26th February 2007

Chances are you have heard about this one, even if it was just in the rage-filled letters section of the Daily Mail, being as it is, groundbreaking and offensive in equal measures.

The film starts with the end and works backwards to opening (think 'Memento' turned up to eleven). The story follows Marcus (Vincent Cassel) as he tracks the rapist of his beautiful beau Monica Belluci. From run-ins with transgender prostitutes to working their way around the cavernous surroudings of a gay brothel, the seedy side of Paris is laid bare in an unsettling, iconic piece that hits like a fire extinguisher to the face. You have been warned.

Rating: 4/5
