The Safer Swansea Partnership has created a new organization for students who are concerned about crime in the community and want to put a stop to it. C.O.P., also known as Citizens Of Pride, is searching for students who want to improve their communities, whether it be halls or a residential area, and make their fellow students feel safe and secure in their homes.
This new project is strongly supported by Neighbourhood Watch, Swansea Sound, The Wave, and The Evening Post. Paul Evans, the Safer Swansea Crime Prevention Officer says he hopes C.O.P. will "encourage people to play a more active role in their communities."
By participating in C.O.P. members will meet other people with the same goals and intentions for the community. Members could also gain skills that will come in handy for their future careers. They will receive their own membership number and welcome pack enclosed with crime prevention information and tools.
Crime Prevention Officer for Students Daniel Jones explains that "students in our city may face slightly different issues to full-time residents but these are equally as important to the Safer Swansea Partnership and the city as a whole."
"This is your opportunity to stand up and be counted," Jones states.
Membership to join C.O.P. is free and forms are available from the Students' Union or a local community centre, leisure centre, or library. For more information call 01792 635687 or visit www.saferswansea.org.uk.
