Miles Lloyd (or Tynchy Stryder), a Llanelli boy who wrote most of his set on the train, was next up with his mixture of musical comedy and how to’s on catching a spider, gangster style. Just as the promo promised, he was the week’s featured guest, proving why white boys shouldn’t dance, but not why they shouldn’t rap. A raw new talent, this comedy was original and edgy, and I would not be surprised if he starts to make a name for himself very soon.
Before the headline act, Chris Barnes and Lucas Eliot took to the stage. Both worked the crowd well, Chris with his retail work woes (yes, he does work in Spar) and Lucas by pointing out that Michael Jackson was the first man whose corpse ever had to be separated for recycling. Regulars with the comedy club, they will be featured in the next Velvet Goldfish sketch show which is returning to Swansea University on the 12th of December.
Jahonnay Rickwood, Swansea regular and comedy club favourite, was the headline for the evening, and he proved why he’s been such a success. He’s famous for his musical comedy; the Swansea Christmas song as well as the Uplands song seemed tailor made for the student crowd. A friend of many of the audience, and a Swansea graduate himself, Johannay has a few upcoming dates in the area. If you like Tim Minchin or Flight of the Conchords style comedy, he’s worth a visit.
Jahonnay Rickwood is performing in Sigma on the 9th of December and at the Grand Comedy Show on the 10th December. The Velvet Goldfish, SUCC’s sketch show, returns on the 12th of December at 7.30 in Diva’s. Tickets are £3 for non-members and £1.50 for members.
