Swans Turn Around Slow Start

After narrowly missing out promotion to the Coca Cola Championship by losing on penalties in the play off final last season Swansea City were looking for a positive start to this season, but have stumbled in their early fixtures.

The Swans managed only 4 points from the first 12 on offer, losing the opening game to newly promoted side Cheltenham Town 2-1. After losing away at Oldham and forcing a two all draw away at Scunthorpe they finally found the winning formula with the fourth game of the season against Doncaster. Swans' hero Lee Trundle grabbed two late goals to secure three points.

Since then the Swans have been on a roll and managed to get themsellves into a promising position, as one of six teams on 14 points from the 27 available leaving them in 8th. The shining star so far has been Leon Knight, who has scored 5 goals so far in the season, giving him the second highest total in the division to date.

Manager, Kenny Jackett, has updated the squad during the off-season, adding several new faces to the team, alongside many of last season's favorites. Recent signings include Trinidad and Tobago international Dennis Lawrence from Wrexham for an undisclosed fee, which should strengthen up the centre of defence in front of French Keeper Willie Gueret. More good news for Swans' fans is that after lengthy discussion Andy Johnson has signed a new contract.

His new contract keeps him with the Swans until 2008, and we all hope he can build on the 18 goals he scored from midfield for the club last season.

The first home game of the term falls on the Tuesday of Fresher's Week at home to Crewe. The Liberty Stadium is easily accessible from the Quadrant bus station in town, with extra buses on match days, but be sure to try and book tickets as the new stadium has been known to sell out a couple of days before home fixtures.
