Interview: Nick Cooper - Treasurer Elect
- 16 Mar 2007 05:15
Nick Cooper, newly-elected Treasurer, found it hard to say how he was feeling just after the result was announced. "It hasn't yet sunk in and I don't think it will," he said, adding that it was something he'd been planning for two years. He also said he felt a bit sick earlier on in the evening, and now, having achieved what he's always wanted, he felt all tingly.
He wanted to thank all his support team of campaigners, along with his housemates and of course all those who voted for him to give him this opportunity to fulfil this role. "Cheers" is how he summed up his appreciation for just everyone who has helped in any way.
Cooper said that his predecessor Owen Morris had paved the way nicely for him and got the balance right between commercial services and welfare services, in which he hopes to follow and continue the good work.
One of his most memorable moments during the long, hard and tiring campaigning week was in the village on Wednesday voting day when he was told that he had already been voted for because he looked like "Shrek." He admits that he enjoyed the campaigning week more last year when he was in the supporting team for Miles, rather than running for himself as this year he felt the pressure of it all. Nick says that he found the week very hard on him both physically and mentally, even saying one day that he had to go home early as he was so exhausted and stressed.
One of the policies which he hopes to get his teeth into first is his policy about putting a 5p charge on plastic bags as so many of them are used each day and by doing so, it will help the environment.
Asked if there was anything he wanted to say, he replied with a grin on his face "Chugga's dead to me!" It's something he backs up with the fact that it is something he said he would say if voted in so here he's saying it.
