Vote 07: Student's Union Sabbatical Elections

Interview: Omar Obeidat (International Officer Candidate)

Oozing confidence, Head of the Islamic Society Omar Obeidat sits down in the messy Le Cafewith a big grin to chat with Waterfront Online. His campaign has run well, but could have been better, he admits; but then, as a late entrant to the race, he acknowledges that his campaign may have been weaker than others. Grateful for the support form his team, his friends and his voters, he knows that this will be a tight election - there is no clear leader at this point in time, due to the high voter turnout.

One message he does put across very strongly to international students is to "Take part next year", as this self admittedly "well organised" candidate knows that every vote counts, and that "only international students know what they need". Drawing support from members of the large Islamic Society, he hopes that this will make up for his late entry into the race. His only worry is that the Student Union has not publicised the elections enough, and that "more publicity" is needed next year. However, he finishes on a positive note, stating that Swansea University is "The best place to study" in the UK. This is a candidate who knows he is the best candidate for the best University - although whether or not the electorate agree has yet to be decided.
