TWO  PROMINENT academic figures have embarked on new roles within Academi Hywel Teifi.

Dr. Gwenno Ffrancon, Senior Lecturer in Media and Communications, has been appointed Director, while Dr. Tudur Hallam has been promoted to Professor of Welsh.

The Academi was established this academic year in memory of Professor Hywel Teifi Edwards, Professor of Welsh at Swansea from 1989 to 1995.

IT WAS in 2004 that Chelsea manager and self-proclaimed ‘Special one’, Jose Mourinho, appointed Brendan Rodgers as youth team coach for the West London side. Fast forward six years and the Northern Irishman is now in charge of Swansea City brandishing his own brand of attractive football that has resulted in much praise, most notably from Cardiff City’s Seyi Olofinjana, dubbing the Swans ‘the Chelsea of the Championship’.

‘Change we can believe in’.

THIS is a phrase that you may be seeing a lot of around campus next year after Dan Ryan-Lowes was elected as the new AU President.

The results were announced last Thursday evening after a busy period of campaigning and Dan beat runner-up Gareth Petts by 69 votes as he swept to victory.

THIS is a phrase that you may be seeing a lot of around campus next year after Dan Ryan-Lowes was elected as the new AU President.

The results were announced last Thursday evening after a busy period of campaigning and Dan beat runner-up Gareth Petts by 69 votes as he swept to victory.

Upon hearing the result, Dan described it as an ‘amazing relief’ and then immediately set about outlining what he wants to implement in the Athletic Union once he takes over from the current President, Siwan Lillicrap.

Panic erupted on the smoking terrace of Oceana during the Ani-ball fancy dress night on Monday 7th February, as two students were seriously injured after fire engulfed their costumes.

 

Panic erupted on the smoking terrace of Oceana during the Ani-ball fancy dress night on Monday 7th February, as two students were seriously injured after fire engulfed their costumes.

The students, believed to be in their first year, appeared to be wearing sheep costumes comprising of cotton wool stuck onto a lycra underlay.

With a significantly smaller budget than the other two films, Waitress grossed a lot less at the Box Office than either Juno or Knocked Up simply because it was not as widely distributed.

EVERY other Wednesday a group of Swansea comedians collect together to present the Itchy Beaver Comedy Club. The night takes place at Talk of the Town, a 300 capacity cabaret style bar, located on High Street.

EVERY other Wednesday a group of Swansea comedians collect together to present the Itchy Beaver Comedy Club. The night takes place at Talk of the Town, a 300 capacity cabaret style bar, located on High Street.

This Wednesday they see one of Never Mind the Buzzcocks’s stars Paul Foot visit Swansea and share the stage with some of Swansea’s own up and coming comedians.

FORMER Swansea student David Toft has teamed up with The Shed Gallery in Uplands to exhibit a wide range of work from five local artists. The exhibition is running from the 5th December to the end of term, and offers a great opportunity to explore the vibrant Swansea art scene.

Both poets have pondered questions of national identity, and while celebrating the culture that we live in they also provide criticism and reproach against the inadequate characteristics of our society.
