Film: The Tourist at The Taliesin

The Tourist, featuring Oscar nominated actors, and box office stars, Angelina Jolie and Johnny Depp. It tells the story of Frank, a ‘Mr Average’ American tourist travelling through Italy in the hopes of finding some excitement after suffering a broken heart. Whilst there he meets Elise (Jolie), an exotic woman, who leads him through an adventure of intrigue, passion and action. However, what Frank does not realise is he is a pawn in Elise’s game as she attempts to make mobsters and Interpol believe that Frank is actually her lover, Alexander Pierce, a man who stole from the mob and owes over £775 million in tax.
Director Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck, who was responsible for the Oscar winning film The Lives of Others, directs Jolie and Depp along with supporting British actors Paul Bettany (Da Vinci Code, Dogsville) and legendary Bond actor Timothy Dalton in a movie that intertwines old Hollywood glamour with a feel of a fast paced, spy thriller. The Tourist is a remake of the 2005 French romantic thriller Anthony Zimmer which, being critically well received, has led to this Hollywood adaption only a couple of years later. So far The Tourist has grossed over $205 million worldwide, doing well on its opening weekend, only being knocked off the top spot by the highly anticipated family film The Chronicles of Narnia. Although being promoted as a thriller, The Tourist was nominated at the 2011 Golden Globes for Best Picture, Actor (Depp) and Actress (Jolie) in a Musical or Comedy.
The Tourist is showing at The Taliesin Arts Centre on Monday 14th February with prices for students £4.50 in advance, £5 on the door.
