Actor Profile: Dwayne Johnson
Dwayne Johnson, also known as The Rock, stars in Faster due to be released next Friday. Known for his role in wrestling, his last WWE match was in 2004, a decision to quit allowed him to focus solely on an acting career. Despite already being known globally as The Rock, Johnson experienced a smooth transition into an acting career when he first appear in television shows Star Trek: Voyager and That ‘70s Show. His first two acting roles were fairly minor until he got his first big break in the opening scenes of The Mummy Returns where he appears as The Scorpion King.
The success of the film led to its spin off The Scorpion King, in which Johnson acts the leading role. For this film, he was paid the highest salary known for an actor in their first starring role, he received $5.5 million.
After he broke into the film industry he appeared in various films and television shows such as Be Cool, The Game Plan, Tooth Fairy and Why Did I Get Married Too?
His role in Faster sees him playing an ex-con who sets out to avenge his brother’s death after being double crossed during a heist years ago; his biggest role since he broke into the industry.
He will again be on the screen later this year in Journey 2: The Mysterious Island, an upcoming 3D action adventure film directed by Brad Peyton.
