It's been a busy few weeks here at the Waterfront Online. James and I have been working throughout the Christmas holidays and exam period to prepare a major update to the site, bringing with it a whole host of improvements and new features as well as the usual great content from the Waterfront and Front teams.
If you read our first entry back in September, you might remember that we wanted to make the website as interactive and easy to use as possible. One of our highest priorities was to ensure the visitors to the website – you – could interact with the content available. Today, we are pleased to be able to bring you the first step towards this goal – blog comments. A new "comments" button should now be visible at the bottom of every blog post. Clicking on this link will allow you to see any comments posted and allow you to contribute to discussions on a whole range of topics covered by our many blogs.
Other updates put in place this weekend include the ability to see a list of articles from each issue of the Waterfront – just click on the issues link on the website homepage. Author feeds now include any blog entries they have made. Some of the graphics used throughout the website have also changed to improve its appearance, and many other smaller changes have been made to make the site easier to use.
In addition to all of these changes, we have now added lots more blogs from the Waterfront and Front teams such as "Flog the dead donkey" from our Motoring Editor Graham, and "Never Mind the Bloggers" from our Music Editor Pete Hayman. The Waterfront's resident agony uncle - Dear Jamie - has also been given a nice, shiny new column in the blogs section. Go take a look at our full list of blogs.Finally, we have also added over 70 articles to the website this weekend containing all the latest news, sport, music, film, lifestyle and culture.

Search the Waterfront

It's just over two months since the Waterfront website went live and in those eight weeks we have worked our way through the best part of 250 articles. These articles have come from five issues of The Waterfront newspaper, three issues of Front magazine, 10 blog entries and several web exclusives. All of this in just 57 days. Just imagine how many articles could be available by the beginning of the summer holidays. With so many stories available, how could you possibly find that interview with Jimmy Carr you liked from seven months ago?
The answer can be found in our new search boxes which are now included on every page of the website. All you need to do is enter a few key words and press enter. Windows Live Search will then provide you with every article on the website about Jimmy Carr, narrowing down the list of potential stories from several hundred to just a small handful. Why not give it a go with some of the stories from last fortnights Waterfront.
Also this week we are happy to announce the launch of another regular column. 'A swan among the sharks' is a weird and very opinionated blog on absolutely anything from our news editor Pete Swan. There are also new entries from our Front Bunker columnists Charlie and Tim, as well as about 55 new articles, features, and our fortnightly horoscopes.

Introducing FRONT Bunker

As you can see there have been some updates to the site over the weekend, and we now have some great new content added. The most of exciting of which are the regular columns - FRONT BUNKER, written by deputy editor Tim Sculthorpe and features editor Charlie Duff. If you have not seen these columns before it is probably because you have not checked out our great magazine - FRONT, which should be available from the stands around campus now, so pick up a copy. But if you don't have time, don't despair, we are now going to be uploading selected content from FRONT onto the site every month so you can view it online instead. Articles ranging from film and DVD reviews, to the latest hot interviews with the likes of Jimmy Carr can now be found in the new Music, Film and Travel sections.
Anyway time to dash we have to get ready for the next great issue.
